Definition
解除 (jiě chú) means to lift, cancel, or remove a formal restriction, agreement, or duty. It is more formal than 取消 (qǔ xiāo 'cancel'), which is used for events or plans. For dismissing someone from a position, 解除 is broader than 解雇 (jiě gù 'fire from employment') or 免职 (miǎn zhí 'remove from office').
