Definition
解雇 is the standard, neutral term for firing an employee from a company. Unlike 开除, which implies expulsion for misconduct (often from a school or organization), or 裁员, which refers to mass layoffs due to downsizing, 解雇 is a general dismissal. 辞退 is a close synonym, while 免职 and 罢免 are used for removing officials from office.
