Definition
订婚 (dìng hūn) means 'to get engaged' — the formal commitment after a proposal. It contrasts with 求婚 (qiú hūn), which is the act of proposing marriage. Note that 订婚 is a separable verb (离合词): you can insert 了 or other elements, e.g. 订了婚.
