贺电 (hè diàn) is a formal congratulatory message sent via telegram or cable. It differs from 贺信 (hè xìn), which is a congratulatory letter or written message on paper. 贺电 suggests a quicker, more official transmission, while 贺信 is used for traditional written congratulations.
