Definition
较劲 (jiào jìn) means to compete with someone in a stubborn, personal way — often a contest of will or effort where neither side gives in. It is stronger and more emotional than 较量 (jiào liàng), which is a neutral 'measure oneself against', and unlike 比赛 (bǐ sài) it does not refer to a formal match. 较劲 is a separable verb (较了一天的劲).
