Definition
过多 is a stative verb meaning 'to be excessive' or 'too many/much'. It is more formal and literary than the colloquial equivalent 太多, which is far more common in everyday speech. You can use 过多 as a predicate (e.g. 数量过多 'the quantity is excessive') or as an attributive with 的 (e.g. 过多的工作 'excessive work'). In spoken Chinese, 太多 is preferred.
