迎战 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to confront or engage head-on', originally used for meeting an enemy in battle. Today it's also used in competitions, exams, or any big challenge. The verb can be split by inserting aspect markers or measure words between 迎 and 战, such as 迎过战 ('have fought before') or 迎了一战 ('fought a battle'). You can use ∼ with an opponent or challenge: ∼对手 / ∼困难.
