Definition

运算 means 'to compute / perform a calculation' — strictly a math or data-processing operation (each ∼ in 这台计算机每秒能∼十亿次). Don't confuse with 运营 ('to run a business/system') or 手术 ('surgery'); 推算 is the related sense of calculating by inference.
