近日 (jìn rì) is a formal, written term meaning 'recently' or 'in the past few days', and can also refer to 'within the next few days'. It is more formal than the everyday word 最近 (zuì jìn), and unlike 近来 (jìn lái) which only refers to the past, 近日 can also point to the near future.
