Definition
违背 means 'to violate' or 'to go against' and is used for both concrete rules (laws, contracts) and abstract things (someone's wishes, one's conscience). It is very close to 违反 (wéi fǎn), but 违反 is more common for laws/regulations, while 违背 is also natural for promises, principles, and personal will. 触犯 (chù fàn) adds a sense of offending a person or dignity, which 违背 does not carry.
