迦 is a character used primarily as a phonetic component in transliterations of Buddhist terms from Sanskrit, such as 释迦牟尼 (Shìjiāmóuní, Śākyamuni) and 迦叶 (Jiāyè, Kāśyapa). It has no independent meaning in modern Chinese and is only encountered in proper names or Buddhist vocabulary.
