Definition
迫使 (pò shǐ) is a formal verb for 'to force, to compel,' used when external circumstances or events (war, financial problems) make someone take an action. It is more written/formal than the colloquial 逼 (bī). Unlike 强迫 (qiǎng pò), which implies direct coercion by a person, 迫使 stresses situational force.
