Definition
迷失 (mí shī) means 'to lose (one's way/direction)', both literally and figuratively (e.g., losing oneself in life). It is more formal and abstract than 迷路 (mí lù), which is concrete 'get lost while walking/driving', and distinct from 迷 (mí), which also means 'to be obsessed with'. Unlike 失去 (shī qù, general 'lose an object'), 迷失 is only used for direction, purpose, or identity.
