Definition
退让 (tuì ràng) means to move aside physically or to back down in a disagreement. Unlike 让步 (give in/yield, specifically in negotiations), 退让 can be purely physical (step aside); unlike 退缩 (shrink back from fear) or 退却 (retreat, often military), 退让 is a voluntary yielding or making way. 避让 (avoid/yield, as in traffic) focuses more on dodging a collision than on conceding.
