Definition
遮 (zhē) means to block something from view, light, or passage — whether physically covering or hiding a fault. It focuses on obstructing or screening, while 盖 (gài) is about putting a lid or cover over a surface (and also 'to build'). For abstract cover-ups, 掩盖 (yǎngài) is more formal and serious.
