避难 (bì nàn) means 'to take refuge' or 'seek shelter' specifically from serious danger such as war, persecution, or natural disasters. Unlike 躲避 (duǒ bì), which is a broader 'hide/avoid' (can be from physical danger, weather, or even responsibilities), 避难 is reserved for grave threats and often implies relocation to safety. It is also more formal than 藏身 (cáng shēn 'hide oneself'), which focuses on physical concealment rather than fleeing to safety.
