Definition
锄 (chú) refers to a hoe and the action of hoeing — a hand tool used for loosening soil and removing weeds. Unlike 铲 (chǎn 'shovel'), which scoops or lifts material, 锄 is for breaking up earth; and unlike 耕 (gēng 'plow'), which tills large fields, 锄 is a smaller, manual garden tool.
