闻名 (wén míng) is a verb meaning 'to be well-known' — it is more formal and often used in written language. Unlike the everyday adjectives 有名 and 出名, 闻名 can be used as a verb with an object (e.g., 以...闻名 'famous for...'). It is similar in formality to 驰名 but less common in everyday speech.
