Definition
阿弥陀佛 is the Chinese transliteration of the Sanskrit Amitābha, the Buddha of Infinite Light and Infinite Life, central to Pure Land Buddhism. In everyday Chinese, it is also used as an exclamation of relief, gratitude, or 'thank goodness' (similar to 'Buddha preserve us'). As a noun, it refers to the Buddha himself or the invocation of his name.
