除夕 (Chúxī) specifically refers to Lunar New Year's Eve, the last day of the lunar year. Unlike 前夕 (qiánxī), which is a general word for 'the eve of' any event, 除夕 is a fixed term for this one cultural occasion. It is not the same as 年夜饭, which is the reunion dinner held on that evening.
