Definition
陶冶 (táoyě) means to cultivate or refine one's character, taste, or temperament through artistic or cultural immersion. Unlike 培养 (péiyǎng), which focuses on developing skills or habits, 陶冶 emphasizes aesthetic and moral refinement. It is close to 熏陶 (xūntáo), but 熏陶 stresses gradual passive influence from the environment, while 陶冶 implies active engagement.
