Definition
随 (suí) means 'to follow' in a broad sense: physically (随某人走), in compliance (随他的意思), or as a dependent variable (随市场变化). Unlike 跟随 (gēn suí), which implies sustained physical following, 随 is more general and can be abstract. Unlike 遵循 (zūn xún), which is formal and means 'to abide by rules', 随 is neutral and everyday.
