Definition
集市 (jí shì) refers to a periodic market, often held on specific days in rural or suburban areas, where farmers sell fresh produce and goods. It contrasts with 市场 (shì chǎng), which is a general term for any marketplace (including abstract markets like 'job market'), and with 夜市 (yè shì), a night market.
