Definition
雕 is the verb for 'to carve' hard materials (jade, wood, stone) with artistic detail. 刻 is more general — it covers engraving letters or simple designs on any surface. 雕刻 is a formal synonym for the craft of carving; 雕塑 ('to sculpt') usually involves modeling three-dimensional forms in clay, stone, or metal.
