Definition
非但 (fēi dàn) is a formal conjunction meaning 'not only', used specifically before a negative clause and often paired with 反而 (fǎn'ér 'but instead') or 而且 (érqiě 'but also'). It is more formal and less common than 不但 (bù dàn) or 不仅 (bù jǐn), which are neutral and pair with 还/也.
