Definition
领土 (lǐng tǔ) refers to the territory of a country, emphasizing sovereignty and borders. It is nearly synonymous with 国土 (guó tǔ), though 国土 is more commonly used in fixed expressions like 'national territory' or 'homeland security'. Unlike 土地 (tǔ dì, 'land/soil') or 领域 (lǐng yù, 'field/domain'), 领土 is strictly political-geographical.
