Definition
颈 (gěng) is a bound form (b.f.) meaning 'neck', but it is not used alone. It appears only in a few colloquial compounds, most commonly 脖颈子 (bó gěng zi, 'back of the neck') and 脖颈儿 (bó gěngr, same meaning). The more common reading for 'neck' is jǐng (as in 颈椎, 长颈鹿), so be careful: gěng is restricted to these specific spoken expressions.
