Definition
首席 (shǒu xí) is a formal term used in official titles to mean 'chief' or 'leading' (e.g., 首席运营官 COO). Unlike 领导 (lǐng dǎo), which is a general word for 'leader' and can be a verb, 首席 is only used as an attributive adjective or noun in specific titles. It is more specific than 主席 (zhǔ xí 'chairperson'), which refers to the head of a committee or organization.
