Definition
髓 (suǐ) is a bound morpheme that cannot stand alone. It appears in compound words referring to marrow (骨髓 gǔsuǐ 'bone marrow', 脊髓 jǐsuǐ 'spinal cord') or metaphorically to the essence or core of something (精髓 jīngsuǐ 'quintessence'). You will always see it attached to another character.
