Definition
鬼子 is a fiercely derogatory term historically used by Chinese people for foreign invaders, most commonly Japanese soldiers during the Second Sino-Japanese War (日本鬼子). It literally means 'devil child' and carries deep historical pain and anger. Using this word today against Japanese people or any foreigner is extremely offensive and likely to cause serious conflict; you will most often encounter it in historical accounts, war films, or literature.
