Definition
鬼迷心窍 literally means 'a ghost has bewitched the mind' — it describes an irrational obsession that makes someone act against their own best interests. You use this idiom when someone does something obviously foolish because they are blinded by desire (love, money, revenge, etc.). It often carries a tone of exasperation: 'What were you thinking?'
