Definition
麒麟 is a mythical hooved creature in Chinese mythology, often called the 'Chinese unicorn' in English, but it's quite different from the Western unicorn. It's a benevolent creature that appears only during the rule of a wise and righteous leader, symbolizing good fortune and prosperity. The qilin is usually depicted with dragon-like scales, a deer's body, and a single horn (sometimes two), and it's associated with gentleness and peace.
