Combining verbs with 并
Use 并 to connect two verb phrases, often in formal language, meaning 'and' or 'in addition.' It emphasizes that the two actions occur together or in sequence. Unlike 和 (used for nouns), 并 should not be used to connect simple nouns.

Verb Phrase 1 + 并 + Verb Phrase 2
Typically used with two-syllable verbs in formal or written Chinese; often interchangeable with 并且.
Examples
- 我同意并支持你的决定。Wǒ tóngyì bìng zhīchí nǐ de juédìng.I agree with and support your decision.
- 会议讨论并通过了今年的工作计划。Huìyì tǎolùn bìng tōngguò le jīnnián de gōngzuò jìhuà.The meeting discussed and approved the work plan for this year.
- 为了降低贫富差距，政府制定了新的政策并开始实施。Wèile jiàngdī pínfù chājù, zhèngfǔ zhìdìng le xīn de zhèngcè bìng kāishǐ shíshī.In order to reduce the gap between the rich and the poor, the government formulated new policies and began to implement them.
