Emphasizing negation with 又

Use 又 before 不 or 没 to strongly emphasize that something is not, was not, or will not be the case. It often conveys an accusatory or annoyed tone, and is frequently paired with 干吗.

Structure

又 + 不 / 没 + Predicate
Often used in accusatory contexts to stress the negation.

Examples

  • 问我干吗?我知道。
    Wèn wǒ gànmá? Wǒ yòu bù zhīdào.
    Why ask me? I definitely don't know.
  • 这些菜坏,为什么要扔?
    Zhèxiē cài yòu méi huài, wèishénme yào rēng?
    These dishes haven't gone bad. Why would you throw them away?
  • 要生气,我是故意的。
    Bùyào shēngqì, wǒ yòu bù shì gùyì de.
    Don't be mad.It really wasn't on purpose.
  • 吃过,怎么知道好不好吃?
    Wǒ yòu méi chī guo, zěnme zhīdào hǎo bu hǎochī?
    I haven't eaten it. How would I know if it is tasty or not?
  • 孩子做错,打他干吗?
    Háizi yòu méi zuò cuò, dǎ tā gànmá?
    The child didn't do anything wrong. Why are you spanking him?
