Expressing "a bit too"

Use this pattern to comment that something is a little too much of a quality. It often implies mild dissatisfaction with negative adjectives, or indicates a change of state with positive ones.

Structure

Adj. + 了(一)点儿
With negative adjectives, expresses dissatisfaction; with positive adjectives, indicates a change.

  • 这条牛仔裤好像短了点儿
    Zhè tiáo niúzǎikù hǎoxiàng duǎn le diǎnr .
    This pair of jeans seems a little short for me.
  • 你管得是不是多了点儿
    Nǐ guǎn de shì bu shì duō le diǎnr ?
    Don't you think you're getting a little too involved?
  • 私立学校是贵了点儿,不过老师很优秀。
    Sīlì xuéxiào shì guì le diǎnr , bùguò lǎoshī hěn yōuxiù.
    Private schools are a little expensive, but the teachers are excellent.
  • 你这么高,你这个男朋友是不是矮了点儿
    Nǐ zhème gāo, nǐ zhège nánpéngyou shì bu shì ǎi le diǎnr ?
    You are so tall. Isn't your boyfriend a little short for you?
  • 对五岁的孩子来说,这个问题稍微复杂了一点儿
    Duì wǔ suì de háizi lái shuō, zhège wèntí shāowēi fùzá le yīdiǎnr .
    This question is just a bit complicated for a five-year-old child.
