Expressing "difficult" with 难

Use 难 (nán) before a verb to express that something is difficult to do. Often 很 (hěn) is added for a more natural tone, but remember to always place 难 directly before the verb.

Subj. + (很) 难 + Verb

Examples

  • 这句话很懂。
    Zhè jù huà hěn nán dǒng .
    This sentence is hard to understand.
  • 汉语很学。
    Hànyǔ hěn nán xué .
    Mandarin is hard to learn.
  • 中国菜很做。
    Zhōngguó cài hěn nán zuò .
    Chinese food is hard to make.
  • 这个东西现在很买。
