Expressing "with" with 跟

The preposition 跟 (gēn) means "with" and is used when doing something with another person. The "with" phrase always comes before the verb in Chinese. 跟 is often paired with 一起 (yīqǐ) for "together with," and can be replaced by 和 (hé).

Structure

Subj. + 跟 + Person + Verb + Obj.
Subj. + 跟 + Person + 一起 + Verb + Obj.
一起 emphasizes doing an activity together
