Reduplication of measure words

Reduplicating a measure word (like 个 or 天) can mean "every" of that type. The reduplicated word goes before the verb or adjective. This pattern is most common with 个个 (every one) and 天天 (every day), but works with other measure words too.

Structure

Subj. + MW + MW + Predicate
the reduplicated measure word means "every" of the relevant noun

Examples

  • 我们个个都很高兴。
    Wǒmen gège dōu hěn gāoxìng.
    Every one of us is very happy.
  • 天天运动。
    Wǒ tiāntiān yùndòng.
    I exercise every day.
  • 次次迟到。
    Tā cìcì chídào.
    He arrives late every time.
  • 这些书本本都有意思。
    Zhèxiē shū běnběn dōu yǒu yìsi.
    Every one of these books is interesting.
  • 家家都关门了。
    Jiājiā dōu guānmén le.
    Every household closed their doors.
