Verbs followed by 给

The pattern places 给 after a verb (usually a monosyllabic action verb) to indicate the recipient of something given, sent, passed, etc. The object being transferred can come after the recipient or be placed at the beginning of the sentence for emphasis.

Structure

Subj. + Verb + 给 + Recipient + Obj.
Obj. + Subj. + Verb + 给 + Recipient

  • 昨天有人送我一束花。
    Zuótiān yǒu rén sòng gěi wǒ yī shù huā.
    Yesterday someone gave me a bouquet of flowers.

    Please pass me a box of tissues.
  • 这是我们送你的生日礼物。
    Zhè shì wǒmen sòng gěi nǐ de shēngrì lǐwù.
    This is your birthday present from us.
