升温 (shēng wēn) — (of temperature) to rise, to become hotter; (figurative) to heat up, to intensify, to escalate
Definition
升温 is literally '(temperature) to rise' — used for both literal heat (天气升温) and figurative escalation (关系/竞争升温). Unlike 加热, it is usually intransitive: the temperature goes up on its own, not because someone heats something.
