Definition
下地 is a separable verb (离合词) with two main senses: (1) to go to work in the fields, and (2) to leave a sickbed after illness. As a verb-object compound, it splits when inserting measure words or duration: e.g., 下过一次地 ('went to the fields once'). Note that the character 地 here is pronounced dì (ground), not the particle de.
