Definition
丧失 means 'to lose' something abstract and important — ability, confidence, rights, or dignity — and implies a permanent or serious loss. It is stronger and more formal than 失去 (shīqù), which covers both concrete and abstract loss. Unlike 把握 (bǎwò 'to grasp, have confidence') or 树立 (shùlì 'to establish'), 丧失 focuses on the irreversible disappearance of something you once had.
verb
