主演 (zhǔ yǎn) means 'to star' (verb) or 'the lead actor/actress' (noun) — it refers to the performer who plays the leading role. Unlike 主角 (zhǔ jué), which is the role itself, 主演 is the person playing it. 主人公 (zhǔ rén gōng) is the main character in a story, not necessarily the actor.
