Definition
作伴 (zuò bàn) means to accompany or keep someone company. It is a separable verb (离合词): the two characters can split when an object, measure word, or time duration is inserted between them — e.g., 作个伴 (zuò ge bàn) 'to keep company for a bit', or 作了一天的伴 (zuò le yī tiān de bàn) 'to have kept company for a whole day'. The person you accompany is introduced with 跟 or 和: '跟朋友作伴'. Note: the input pinyin 'zuō' is erroneous; the correct pronunciation is zuò bàn.
