Definition
信教 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to follow a religion' or 'to be religious.' The verb 信 and the noun 教 can split to insert aspect markers, measure words, or complements, e.g., 信了教 (became religious), 信什么教 (which religion do you follow). You cannot place a direct object after 信教 — instead, specify the religion between the two parts or use a prepositional phrase like 信教的人.
