Definition
偏 (piān) has three senses: 'lean/deviate', 'biased', and an adverb 'stubbornly/contrary to expectations'. As an adverb it contrasts with 偏偏 (more 'contrary to wishes') and 一味 ('blindly persistent'); for the physical slant sense, 斜 (xié) is purely physical while 偏 can also mean 'deviate' or 'biased'.
