Definition
停业 (tíng yè) means 'to cease trading' and is used specifically for a business or shop closing its operations, either temporarily (e.g., for renovation) or permanently. Unlike 停止 (tíng zhǐ, general 'stop') or 暂停 (zàn tíng, 'pause'), 停业 is restricted to commercial establishments. It contrasts with 倒闭 (dǎo bì), which always implies bankruptcy and permanent closure.
