Definition

其他 (qítā) is the general word for 'other' or 'the rest' — it can be used before a noun (其他书 'other books') or alone (其他人 'other people'). It's slightly more formal than 别的 (bié de), which is the everyday spoken equivalent. 另 (lìng) is used before a measure word (另一个 'another one'), and 其余 (qíyú) refers specifically to 'the rest' of a defined group.
