Definition
出血 is a separable verb-object compound (离合词). It has two main meanings: a medical sense 'to bleed, to hemorrhage', and a colloquial sense 'to spend a lot of money, to fork out'. When you need to insert measure words, durations, or other elements, the verb 出 and the object 血 split apart — for example, 出了很多血 ('lost a lot of blood') or 出了不少血 ('spent quite a bit'). Do not put objects between the two characters directly; instead use a separated form when adding details.
