前夜 means 'eve' (the night before a notable event) or 'night before last' (the night before yesterday). It is somewhat formal or literary; in everyday conversation, 前天晚上 is more common for the latter sense, and 前夕 for the former. Use 前夜 in narratives, fixed expressions, or when you want a more classical tone.
